Changes to Website

Now that we officially have two separate Rainbow units, parts of this website have been split into two. 1st and 2nd Roath Park Rainbows now have their own areas for "about us" as well as the termly programme and blogs about each meeting. The other main change is that from now on, rather than putting photos in the gallery, they will go in photo albums within the 1st and 2nd Roath park areas.

There is no longer a members area on this website as it was under-used and losing it helps to make the layout of the website easier to use and less cluttered!

Asthma UK

In May, the Rainbows completed a sponsored danceathon and raised a fantastic £260.80 for Asthma UK! This money is going to help the charity send children with asthma on Kick Asthma holidays where they can have fun and learn more about asthma. By raising such a huge amount of money, we have paid for the following:

16 children to attend an activity session each on a Kick Asthma holiday
or
8 educational sessions on a Kick Asthma holiday
or
2 and a half days of a holiday for one child (or one half-day each for 5 children)

A big well done to all of our Rainbows - every Rainbow raised at least £2 and some raised much more - thank you to everybody as you should all be very proud of yourselves!

All the Rainbows who participated will earn themselves a special Asthma UK badge.

New Friends in the USA!

A Daisy Troop in Pheonix, Arizona, USA has asked us to be their friends and for both us and them to find out more about each others meetings and country. We have received a fantastic poster from them and will be sending them something back to thank them. It will be great to find out about Rainbows in America, and about living near the desert.

20... and Famous!

1st Roath Park Rainbows was officially registered as a Rainbow unit on 10th March 1989, making the unit 20 this week! Since the unit opened, 266 Rainbows have been enrolled and about 730 meetings have been held - pretty good going!

Also, our unit is famous this week, as an activity that we completed for our "Rainbows are 21" challenge badge in the summer of 2008 is featured on the Rainbows website, along with a picture of two of our ex-Rainbows. Rainbows Go Green!

Panda is trying to save the planet this term! Parents can now choose to only receive letters via email, to save printing out 30 letters every month. Lots of parents have already agreed to this scheme, so please let me know if you haven't already agreed to it.

As part of a GirlguidingUK and Woodland Trust "Changing The World" project, we are also collecting used Christmas cards to recycle. Please bring in any cards so that we can see how many cards the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides can collect.

First meeting of new term

The first meeting of the Spring term will be Tuesday 6th January. We will be introducing the theme for the half-term: Rainbows around the world. In our first meeting, our mascot Olivia will be going on holiday and taking us with her!
